NB: The Business Innovation and Investment, (Provisional) Subclass 188 Visa programme has been temporarily suspended until further notice, and the following information is provided for general and historical information purposes only.

This provisional visa is designed for business owners and investors with a successful track record overseas who are interested in investing in, or establishing new or existing businesses in Australia. Valid for five years, it offers a route to permanent residence via the Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) (subclass 888) Visa.

- - Must be involved directly in the business operations.
Investor Stream

For those investing a minimum of AUD2.5 million into a complying Australian Managed Investment Scheme.
Significant Investor Stream

Designed for investors willing to invest at least AUD5 million into a complying Australian Managed Investment Scheme.
Business Innovation Extension Stream

Allows (legacy) Business Innovation stream visa holders to extend their stay to continue developing their business for up to 2 additional years.
Significant Investor Extension Stream

For (legacy) Significant Investor stream visa holders, offering an extension for up to 4 additional years.
Entrepreneur Stream

For individuals with a third party funding agreement to carry out entrepreneurial activities. Unlike other 188 Visa streams, Competent English must be demonstrated.
Common Criteria
- Nomination by a State or Territory or Austrade.
- Meeting investment requirements specific to each stream, and an intention to meet the criteria for the corresponding permanent visa
